God blesses every human being with some flaws and some strengths and surely those who succeed in every field of life are those who make their strengths, courage and conviction instead of making their flaws their weaknesses, history of a human witness that even those with physical defects have became successful by performing great deeds alone. In Pakistan’s disabled cricket, there will be many layers of determination in the story of every cricketer. Umaiz -ur-Rehman is prominent in the sense that he was playing very good normal cricket despite his physical defect before he came into disabled cricket. By making Pakistan cricket superstar Shahid Khan Afridi a role model, he tried to bat, bowl and field like him and proved to be so obsessed that he adopted the same hair style as Shahid Afridi, which is why That he is called Shahid Afridi of Disabled Cricket.

Umaiz -ur-Rehman, a highly educated man from the historic city of Bahawalpur, contracted polio at the age of six months and his left leg was severely affected. When he regained consciousness, he realized his shortcomings, he did not care about it at all and spent his childhood like a normal boy and enjoyed it very much. His mother guided him step by step. Along with cricket, he completed his education from college, universitie to Masters and is currently preparing for his PhD.

Umaiz -ur-Rehman not only played normal cricket at school, college and university level as well as inter-district, inter-board, inter-university and region level but also led the university team, played early cricket from Sutlej Club Bahawalpur and formed his own club. When disabled cricket was introduced in Pakistan, someone asked him to give trials for it too, but he was offended that I am playing normal cricket, why should I give trials? Later, at the request of Dr. Aftab Gilani, he agreed to give trials where he was selected. After being selected, experienced coach and cricket organizer Jamil Kamran further honed his skills. Umaiz-ur-Rehman is also a bowling all-rounder and best fielder.

Being from a wealthy family, they are very upset when someone sympathizes with them because of their physical lack. They think of themselves as normal human beings, so they are always ready for any difficult task that is impossible even for normal people. After Pakistan’s defeat in the 1999 World Cup final, he had promised his family at an early age that he would lead Pakistan to victory. He fulfilled his promise by playing 13 international matches in which he led Pakistan to memorable victories against India, Afghanistan and England. He has taken 27 wickets in his international career. Four wickets for 12 runs is his best bowling, while against India he took three wickets for 17 runs in Bangladesh’s five-nation tournament 2015 and played an important role in Pakistan’s victory.

Along with the wanted Matloob Qureshi, Jahanzeb Tiwana and Nihar Alam, it would not be out of place if Umaiz-ur-Rehman is also declared the superstar of Pakistan Disabled Cricket. There is no more educated cricketer in Pakistan Disabled Cricket than Umaiz-ur-Rehman. Umaiz-ur-Rehman, who played early cricket in Bahawalpur, has also played cricket for Pakistan in Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai and Bangladesh. He is very grateful to PDCA’s Saleem Karim, Amiruddin Ansari, Jamil Kamran, Dr. Aftab Gilani and his first coach Ijaz Akhtar in his career as well as his mother whose encouragement has never disappointed him in life.
