KARACHI, April 27: The Pakistan Disabled Cricket Association (PDCA) hosted a reception here on Thursday night in honour of the victorious Pakistan team which defeated England in the historic disability cricket series played in Dubai last February. Pakistan, skippered by PDCA president Salim Karim, won both the Twenty20 matches and the three-match one-day series 2-1 staged at the ICC Global Cricket Academy in Dubai. Mohsin Shaikhani, chairman of Abad who graced the largely attended occasion as the chief guest at the Shan-e-Mughlia Restaurant, paid glowing tribute to PDCA chief Salim Karim for playing a pivotal role in organising the ground-breaking international series. He lauded the Pakistan team for proving to the world that despite all the problems each member contributed to the success through sheer hard work, discipline, dedication and above all, never-ending determination. Mohsin expressed the hope that the PDCA officials will continue to promote the game for the handicapped people in the future as well and pledged to support them in ensuring more international matches are played. Later, Mohsin presented the members of the national team with gold meals. Jahanzaib Tiwana and Hasnain Alam, who played a big part in Pakistan’s victory against England, however were notable absentees because of personal commitments. Former Test wicket-keeper and current PCB director education and training Wasim Bari, KCCA president Prof Sirajul Islam Bukhari, PDCA president Salim Karim, KCCA suspended secretary Prof Ejaz Faruqi and PDCA secretary Amiruddin Ansari also spoke on the occasion. Mohammad Nizam, the PDCA media manager, ended the programme with a vote of thanks.
